Zabihullah Mujahid says the Islamic Emirate does not seek continued tensions with any country, particularly Pakistan, and is working to restore normal relations between the two countries.
Speaking at a press conference, the Islamic Emirate spokesman said Kabul seeks normal relations with all countries as part of its foreign policy and was not the party that initiated tensions with Pakistan.
According to Mujahid, continued tensions between Kabul and Islamabad are detrimental to both sides.
“Unfortunately, the Pakistani side created problems at the beginning of last year by closing crossings and adopting certain policies that were not appropriate for the two countries, forcing Afghanistan to respond. We did not initiate any such actions, nor do we want relations between the two countries to deteriorate, especially in the economic and trade sectors, which are humanitarian issues,” Mujahid said.
As disagreements between Kabul and Islamabad continue, criticism of Pakistan’s policies has also increased from some Pakistani officials and political figures.
Pakistan’s Defense Minister Khawaja Asif largely agreed with the country’s interior minister, who described Pakistan’s system of governance as “outdated and ineffective,” but said the proper place to pursue reforms is through parliament and the cabinet, not business forums.
Military analyst Sadiq Shinwari said: “If Pakistan’s leaders focus on strengthening and stabilizing their own country instead of pursuing failed and ineffective domestic and foreign policies, tensions within Pakistan may decrease.”
Political analyst Mohammad Akram Arefi also said: “The people of both countries do not want tensions in their relations. If government leaders pay attention to the views of the majority, they should restore peaceful relations as soon as possible and reduce the level of tensions.”
Previously, several Pakistani political figures had also criticized Islamabad’s policy toward Afghanistan, saying tensions should be resolved through dialogue rather than force.
