The Iranian Deputy Foreign Minister says a meeting is scheduled for mid-December to help resolve tensions between Afghanistan and Pakistan.
Saeed Khatibzadeh, in an interview with a Russian media outlet, stated that all neighboring countries, including Russia and China, will participate in the meeting.
He said the agenda will focus on key regional issues and supporting Afghanistan’s stability through regional mechanisms.
Saeed Khatibzadeh, Iranian Deputy Foreign Minister, said: “We are working on establishing a contact group on Afghanistan that will include all of Afghanistan’s neighboring countries, along with several others such as Russia and China. The meeting will focus on major regional topics, particularly how to support Afghanistan’s stability through regional mechanisms.”
Meanwhile, the Iranian Foreign Ministry has announced a phone conversation between Iranian Foreign Minister Abbas Araghchi and Amir Khan Muttaqi.
The Iranian foreign minister emphasized his country’s readiness to cooperate in maintaining regional peace and stability.
Zia Ahmad Takal, Head of Public Relations at the Ministry of Foreign Affairs of the Islamic Emirate of Afghanistan, said that in the call, Amir Khan Muttaqi stressed that preserving stability and enhancing regional cooperation are among Afghanistan’s top priorities.
Zia Ahmad Takal stated: “The Minister of Foreign Affairs emphasized the Islamic Emirate’s position on regional cooperation and the structure of such meetings, and noted that maintaining stability and strengthening regional cooperation are top priorities for Afghanistan.”
While regional efforts to address issues between Afghanistan and Pakistan continue, on the other side of the border, some tribal residents have voiced criticism of Pakistan’s policies.
A media activist in the tribal region said: “Why have poverty, helplessness, incidents, and terrorism increased? The reason for all this is that this government did not come through the people’s vote. It pays no attention to people’s problems.”
Following Islamabad’s airstrikes on Kabul and Paktika on October 9, Qatar and Turkey mediated three rounds of talks between Afghanistan and Pakistan in Doha and Istanbul. However, the third round ended without any outcome.
