Afghanistan has signed a $46 million agreement with an Indian company, TCRC, to develop and equip quality assurance laboratories across the country.
The deal was signed by the National Standards and Quality Authority in the presence of Deputy Prime Minister for Economic Affairs Mullah Abdul Ghani Baradar. It will be implemented over five years and cover key sectors including electricity, construction, and textiles, with laboratory equipment to be installed at nine major ports and centers.
Officials said the initiative aims to strengthen the country’s quality control infrastructure, improve standards for imports and domestic production, and reduce the circulation of substandard goods.
Economic experts added that upgrading laboratory facilities could help build greater confidence in local products and improve the efficiency of export processes through better testing and certification systems.
