A group of girls recently graduated from a religious madrasa in Kabul. While expressing joy over completing their religious studies, they called on the Islamic Emirate to reopen schools and universities for women and girls.

Lailma Wahidi, one of the graduates, said: “I began memorizing the Holy Quran three years ago, and I’m very happy to be among the graduates today.”

Another graduate, Hadiya, said: “I urge families to send their daughters to madrasas. If schools are closed, at least madrasas are still open.”

According to the madrasa’s administration, more than 100 girls have graduated from the institution, and efforts are underway to expand access to religious education for even more girls.

Abdul Basir Rizwan, the head of the madrasa, said: “Over the past two years, we have worked together with other scholars and female teachers, and as a result, 102 students are graduating today.”

Since schools and universities for girls were closed nearly four years ago, many women and girls have turned to religious madrasas to continue their education.
