Khalifa Sirajuddin Haqqani, Minister of Interior of the Islamic Emirate of Afghanistan, has welcomed recent comments by Pakistani religious scholars and Foreign Minister Ishaq Dar regarding efforts to ease tensions between Kabul and Islamabad.
Speaking at an event held to recognize the work of Kabul Municipality and other departments, Haqqani said he appreciates any statements that contribute to resolving issues between the two neighboring countries.
“Recently, a gathering of scholars was held in Pakistan, during which the esteemed leader of Jamiat Ulema-e-Islam, Maulana Fazl-ur-Rehman, and Mufti Taqi Usmani made remarks in favor of Afghanistan. We are thankful for those,” Haqqani said. “Just yesterday, the Pakistani Foreign Minister, Mr. Ishaq Dar, made positive statements regarding Afghanistan, and I want to say that we welcome any goodwill and brotherly statements made by anyone.”
Haqqani emphasized that the Islamic Emirate is committed to regional security and stability and that Afghans pose no threat to anyone, nor do they intend to.
“When we have unprecedented security in our own country, we also share a message of brotherhood and peace with the world. We want to ease people’s concerns, both inside and outside the country, and assure everyone that Afghans do not intend to be a threat or have harmful intentions toward anyone,” He added.
The minister called on other countries to contribute to the reconstruction of Afghanistan and urged Afghan citizens to support the Islamic Emirate in this process.
“We aim to elevate Afghanistan’s standing alongside the world’s major countries,” Haqqani said. “We are giving the people a message of rebuilding, join us in this effort. Afghans have suffered enough from wars, destruction, and enmity.”
Last week, Pakistani religious scholars led by Maulana Fazl-ur-Rehman criticized Islamabad’s violation of Afghanistan’s airspace and called for resolving tensions through dialogue.
Ishaq Dar, Pakistan’s Foreign Minister and Deputy Prime Minister, also stated recently that Pakistan holds goodwill toward Afghanistan and does not want Afghan soil used against it. He emphasized that this position could help resolve current tensions between the two countries.
