Pakistan’s Ishaq Dar emphasized the importance of national consensus and political inclusivity for Afghanistan’s stability at the SCO meeting.

The meeting of the Shanghai Cooperation Organization (SCO) Foreign Ministers, held in Tianjin, China, saw significant discussions on Afghanistan’s political future.

Pakistan’s Foreign Minister and Deputy Prime Minister, Mohammad Ishaq Dar, emphasized that fostering national consensus and ensuring inclusive political and ethnic representation within Afghanistan’s governmental structures remains a key priority.

During the meeting, Dar stressed the importance of supporting a terrorism-free Afghanistan and acknowledged the collective understanding on the need for Afghanistan’s sustainable development. The ministers also reiterated Afghanistan’s role as an independent, neutral, and peaceful country free from terrorism and drug trafficking.

The discussions also focused on enhancing regional security, with a particular emphasis on Afghanistan’s situation. Dar highlighted that most SCO member states are actively strengthening bilateral relations with the Taliban government, a sign of growing engagement with Afghanistan’s current rulers.

However, despite these efforts, critics within Afghanistan argue that the Taliban have failed to create an inclusive government. Many claim that the group has concentrated power in its own hands and excluded other factions, with Taliban members occupying key positions and sidelining professional government employees.

While international efforts to stabilize Afghanistan continue, the ongoing political exclusion and governance challenges raise concerns about the long-term peace and security in Afghanistan.
